Austin Squash League Rules

  1. Teams to consist of a maximum of 5 players, with 4 playing in any given fixture.
  2. If unable to field 4 players, a player from the reserve pool may be used. Note: All registered league players will be ranked and any reserve called upon must play in correct ranking order.
  3. Order of play - The visiting team will have first choice of match to played (ie number 1, 2, 3 or 4). The home team will choose the second match, etc.
  4. Officiating - All players must participate in scoring and refereeing duties. The visiting team will be responsible for scoring the first match, with the home team supplying the referee. Refereeing and scoring duties will alternate with each match.
  5. The scorer will call balls that are "out of court", announce scores and monitor the 90 second break between games, whilst the referee will deal with appeals against the scorer's calls and requests for lets.
  6. The rules of squash will apply at all times. These can be found at http://www.us-squash.org/rules/index.html.
  7. Matches will be played as best of 5 games to 11 points, using the Point a Rally (PAR) system.
  8. At the end of the fixture matches, games and points will be totaled for each team. The team winning the most matches will be the winner. If matches are even, the decision will be based on games won. If games are even, total points will be used. If points are also even, fixture points will be shared by both teams.
  9. Season Point Score - A total of 6 points will be awarded for each fixture during the season. The winning team will be allocated 2 points and 1 point will be awarded for each match won. A 4-0 win would earn the winning team 6 points. A 3-1 win would earn 5 points for the winning team and 1 for the losing team. A 2-2 win would earn 4 points for the winning team and 2 for the losing team. A tied fixture (matches, games and points equal) would earn each team 3 points.
  10. At the end of the season, the top 2 teams will play off to decide the season championship.
  11. Play is to start promptly at 7:00pm. All players should be present at the court 10 minutes before this time. If a player nominated to take the court is not present within 10 minutes of being called, the match is forfeited.
  12. Players who may be delayed in arriving for a fixture must call their team captain to advise of their late arrival.
  13. Match results are to be emailed to Don Murphy by 5pm the next day.
  14. The League will provide 1 new ball for each fixture. In the event of breakage, a previously used ball may be substituted.
  15. Wearing of protective eyewear is strongly recommended. Players not wearing protective eyewear do so at their own risk.

Austin Squash Fixture Flow Chart

  1. Ten minutes before the scheduled start time - all players from both teams should be present and ready to play. The visiting team captain advises the home captain of the first match to be played eg # 3 players. The home captain nominates the referee for the match.
  2. Match time - the nominated players take the court for a 4 minute warm up (2 minutes each side). Note: The etiquette for warm ups is for each player to hit the ball no more than twice before cross courting to his opponent
  3. As soon a one player wins 2 games, the captain next in turn must nominate which players are to play next. This allows time for changing, stretching, etc prior to commencement of the match
  4. Immediately following completion of each match, players for the next match take the court for warm up and play
  5. On completion of the 4th match, both captains are responsible for totaling the scoresheet
  6. By 5pm the next day, results are to be emailed to Don Murphy - a brief match report may also be included for publishing on the web site
